From the start of June 2020 the new track and trace system began. There are already scammers who are trying to take advantage of it to gain people's details. Please be aware of this - look on Track and Trace guidance to see what the people contacting you will, and more importantrly, will not be asking.

 

Important information if you use a gas or electricity meter:

Families who are self-isolating and are on electric / gas meters or smart meters, can call the following provider numbers and organise to be sent 2 weeks credit for their meter:

Something a little different - you can also pick up a free bag of four randomly selected novels either just outside or inside the greengrocers - these are generously provided by Oasis/Dave's to offer a service to those who might want some fresh reading material whilst the library and their shop are closed. Take as many bags as you like, pass on to others who might want them.

As of 8-4-2020 they are now doing deliveries. Call the number central number to arrange this from your local shop. This is a new delivery service, with the call centre in Manchester. There is a minimum basket of £20, no alcohol or tobacco. Contact the call centre for more details.

They also remain open (although closing at 8.00pm) for peolpe to shop as mornal for  normal groceries, newspapers and magazines, etc., using social distancing rules.

The shop is open on a one in and one out basis as of 6-4-2020. They will take orders for collection or delivery on the above phone number. Free local delivery for orders over £10.00.

They are providing a delivery service for whole cakes and pastries - £5.00 for orders under £30.00. contactthem for details or what is available and delivery arrangements.

Hours change from 30-3-2020 - weekdays closing at 5.00pm, Saturdays 4.00pm. PO open at 9.00am. Operating a one in one out system from 7-4-2020 - please wait at the door. If you need to authorise someone to collect your pension please ring the above number first. The shop is also available providing newspapers and groceries. 

They are offering a next day delivery service, and can collect from other businesses for you.

 

Those that have had a 'shielding' letter can also get priority slots from Tesco and Asda - if you have not had this made available to you yet, email or ring them. No guarantees of a home delivery slot, but more chances.

They are still open, but are operating a limited access policy for the protection of staff and customers. They aim to be open for the collection of prescriptions as normal, but might have to pause that at short notice if the pharmacist is called away to another store.

This is temporarily not available in Whitland (as of 15-4-2020) due to staff shortages.

They are operating a telephone first triage service – so please do not attend the surgery in person unless you have been asked to do so by them. No prescriptions can be collected from them – all will be sent to your designated pharmacy for collection.

MyDentist (01994 240932) and Whitland Dental Surgery  (01994 240704) are doing telephone triage service only, and directing people elsewhere for treatment.

Vets – Allen and Partners                                                                   01994 240318

They are taking ongoing advice from the BVA regarding ensuring personal and customer safety. Farm animal work is as normal as possible. The vets are working from a home base wherever possible. They are not taking appointments for routine pet work but sick pets will be seen, ensuring only one person a time inside the building.  They ask that you telephone ahead and wait in your car outside until called.

Volunteering:

There is the Connect 2 Carmarthenshire site where you can request help and support, and you can also offer help and support, all through informal volunteering.  The website is https://connect2carmarthensire.org.uk

 

Free School meals and family food packs:

If your children are entitled to these you can collect a pack containing breakfast and lunch for five days from Ysgol Dyffryn Taf between 9.00am and 12.00 noon. Any family with children can go along to Ysgol Dyffreyn Taf to pick up a food pack, which will be for the whole family, not just the child/children. The only condition is that they provide thier contact details so firther help can be offered if necessary.

Their normal main telephone service to contact departments has been suspended. However, you can ring it (01267 234567) between 8.30am and 6pm seven days a week to speak to a council officer about

  • Financial support and other help for businesses
  • Assistance available for the elderly, vulnerable and isolated
  • Linking the needs of communities with volunteers

Carmarthen Libraries are all closed to the public from 20-3-2020, but the online services remain available to everyone – ebooks, emagazines, newspapers, etc. You can also renew your books online. Contact Carmarthen Library on 01267 224824 to find out more, get your PIN etc.

Whitland Town Council are working with Canolfan Hywel Dda to provide a 24/7 answerphone helpline that you can ring for local advice. 01994 240867.  This is not manned, but will be checked at least once a day. They are also providing information in their windows with contact numbers and advice.
